Our standards
The highest standards, for everyone
The law sets the minimum. Hazaar holds itself, and everyone who works with it, to recognised international standards for quality, health and safety, the environment, security and governance, applied as one system. They are benchmarks: Hazaar does not currently hold certification under any of them.

Quality
Quality is planned into the work from the start, not inspected in at the end.
Our commitments: quality
- We run a documented quality management system modelled on ISO 9001.
- We check design and construction independently at defined stages, before work moves on.
- We choose materials and suppliers on verified performance, not on price alone.
- We record every defect, put it right, and change our process so it does not happen again.
Reference framework: ISO 9001 (quality management systems).

Health and safety
Everyone who works on a Hazaar site, and everyone who lives in a Hazaar home, must be safe.
Our commitments: health and safety
- We run a health and safety management system modelled on ISO 45001.
- We design structural and fire safety to the National Building Code of India as a minimum, and benchmark it against international practice.
- We plan every site for safety, and provide training and protective equipment for every worker, including those employed by our contractors.
- Anyone on our sites has the authority to stop work they believe is unsafe.
Reference frameworks: ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety); National Building Code of India 2016.

Environment
We aim to build homes that use as little energy, water and material as possible over their whole life.
Our commitments: environment
- We run an environmental management system modelled on ISO 14001.
- We design first for orientation, daylight, shade and natural ventilation, before adding mechanical systems.
- Where a recognised green building rating, such as IGBC, GRIHA, LEED or EDGE, suits a project, we design to meet it.
- We control dust, noise, water and waste on our sites, and source materials responsibly.
Reference frameworks: ISO 14001 (environmental management systems); IGBC, GRIHA, LEED, EDGE.

Security
Security covers the people in our buildings and the information entrusted to us.
Our commitments: security
- We plan buildings for safe access, good lighting and clear sight lines.
- We manage information security using a system modelled on ISO/IEC 27001.
- We collect only the personal data we need, limit access to it, and handle it as Indian data protection law requires.
- We report and respond to security incidents as the law requires.
Reference framework: ISO/IEC 27001 (information security management systems).

Governance and ethics
How we work matters as much as what we build.
Our commitments: governance and ethics
- We comply with every law that applies to us. We treat compliance as the minimum, not the goal.
- We record every significant decision, and a designated partner is accountable for each one.
- We do not offer, pay or accept bribes or improper payments, and we do not allow anyone acting for us to do so.
- We deal fairly and in writing with suppliers, contractors and customers.
Reference framework: ISO 37001 (anti-bribery management systems).
One standard for everyone
How our standards reach everyone who works with us
A standard means little if it stops at our own door. We apply ours to every partner, contractor and supplier, and to every worker on our sites, whoever employs them.
Selection
We choose partners on their record and their standards, not on price alone.
Agreement
Our Partner Code of Conduct forms part of every agreement, and applies to subcontractors at every tier.
Oversight
We check that the code is followed, including by visiting sites and reviewing records.
Worker welfare
Safe conditions, fair and timely pay, decent facilities and respect, for every worker on our sites.
Speaking up
Anyone can report a concern in confidence, and we never retaliate against anyone who does so in good faith.
Improvement
Where we find a shortfall, we agree how to correct it, and we raise our standards over time.
A holistic approach
One decision, every standard in view
These are not separate programmes. A choice of material affects quality, safety and the environment at the same time, so we make that choice once, with every standard in view.
Each standard has a named owner. We review our performance against all of them together, and we expect to raise our standards as the company grows.
Frameworks we use
The benchmarks behind our commitments
We name the frameworks we use so that our commitments can be measured against something public.
| Framework | Covers | How we use it | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISO 9001 | Quality management systems | Structure of our quality management system | Benchmark, not certified |
| ISO 45001 | Occupational health and safety | Structure of our health and safety management system | Benchmark, not certified |
| National Building Code of India 2016 | Building design and construction | The minimum for structural and fire safety | Minimum we design to |
| ISO 14001 | Environmental management systems | Structure of our environmental management system | Benchmark, not certified |
| IGBC, GRIHA, LEED, EDGE | Green building rating systems | Design targets where a rating suits a project | Benchmark, not certified |
| ISO/IEC 27001 | Information security management systems | Structure of our information security controls | Benchmark, not certified |
| ISO 37001 | Anti-bribery management systems | Reference for our anti-bribery controls | Benchmark, not certified |

We are happy to explain how we apply them, and what we expect from the partners who work with us.
