Responsibility · Safety

Our aim: everyone goes home safe, every day

Safety is the first standard we apply, and one we never compromise. It covers everyone on our sites and everyone who lives in or visits the buildings we create.

Our safety principles

Principles that apply to every task, on every site

  • Safety comes before speed

No task is so urgent that it cannot be planned and done safely.

  • Anyone can stop work

Every person on our sites has the authority to stop work they believe is unsafe, without penalty.

  • Plan, then build

Every activity is assessed and planned before it starts, and checked while it is under way.

  • Competence before access

Only trained, inducted and properly equipped people work on our sites.

  • Report everything

Accidents, injuries and near misses are reported without blame, so that we learn from each one.

  • Learn and improve

Every incident and every lesson changes how we work, on that site and on every site after it.

On our sites

What we require on every site

Site safety commitments

  • A site-specific safety plan, reviewed as the work changes.
  • Induction and training for every worker, and daily safety briefings.
  • Protective equipment provided free of charge, and its use enforced.
  • Strict controls for work at height, excavation, lifting, electrical work and hot work.
  • First aid, emergency arrangements and clear routes to safety.
  • Clean drinking water, sanitation and rest areas for every worker.
  • Control of dust and noise to protect workers’ health and our neighbours.

In the buildings we create

Safe to live in, for the life of the building

Building safety commitments

  • Structural and fire safety designed to the National Building Code of India as a minimum, and benchmarked against international practice.
  • Independent review of structural and fire safety design.
  • Safe circulation, lighting and accessibility in every home and shared space.
  • Materials chosen to avoid known health hazards.
  • Complete handover documentation, including how to maintain safety systems.

One standard for everyone

The same protection for every worker, whoever employs them

Contractors and their workers are protected by the same safety standards as anyone working directly for Hazaar. Our Partner Code of Conduct makes this a condition of working with us.
